American Literature

I thought that taking this class would be "easy" for me because I liked to read, but it was so much more than that. It is really hard to understand some of the reading in this class and you have to read some stories or poems a few times to get the full meaning behind them.
Once you get that meaning though the story takes on a life of its own and sometimes you get a glimpse into the authors mind and you get an idea of what they have seen in life.
Was this class easy? Not necessarily, but it was worth it, and I do recommend it to anyone who wants to broaden their minds and step out of reading just for fun but reading to learn.
I can't say that I loved every single story, but I did get something out of every single story.

  1. I'd have to agree that this class wasn't easy. I love reading myself, but there are sometimes that I just don't get the story itself, so I read between the lines more, or sometimes browse the Internet for clarification of some confusing topics. Sparknotes helps a lot on more of the bigger stories. Not every single story was enjoyable for me either, but with it, I gained a new perspective on how the world is viewed, gained insight to history and culture, and that made it worthwhile.

  2. I agree, this class had enlightened me, and caused me to think more critically. I have enjoyed the lessons of this class greatly! I have noticed that I have a new appreciation for American Literature, and even history. I think that many of the selections that we read, fiction or non-fiction, have given me some insight into what the feelings, social expectations, atmosphere, and the hardships that were faced during the historical periods of the stories. I wish that the literature that is studied in public schools was studied more like how we studied them in this class. I also wish that American Literature was incorporated into American History more. I think that if it were, it would make the history lessons, or even the social study aspect of the lessons more interesting to the students, and make the lessons become more real to them.

  3. i agree with you. i love reading too but when you have four classes plus work and trying to plan a wedding it just does not give you enough time to sit down and read the book. when i read i want to enjoy reading it not just read it to help me get homework done. Hope you had great semester.
